Something to Bark About

About Us

Safe Haven Animal Rescue Edmonton Society (SHARES) is a non-profit rescue organization with many of our volunteers having years of experience in rescue and animal care who have come together to provide a much needed service to Edmonton and surrounding area.

MISSION STATEMENT

Imagine a life on the streets of Edmonton as a stray, the weather alone is a scary thing let alone what can happen to a trusting soul who is just wanting someone to love and care for them.  Some will have an untimely death due to road hazards or health issues, some of these pets will be lucky enough to be picked up by bylaw then find themselves in the warm but noisy pound wondering what will happen to them next?

Some will be lucky and be adopted by loving homes or to be rescued by a caring rescue group, but all too often most meet the fate of being euthanized because no one wanted them. Most will enter and leave this earth unwanted and unloved…

THIS MUST STOP!!!

Our mission at Safe Haven Animal Rescue Edmonton is to rescue as many as we can and have the pets spayed or neutered before leaving our care to prevent future unwanted souls.   Most of our adoptable pets are wonderful animals who just needed more time.  A few will have behavior issues that need some work or some training is required, but in the end the effort is worth the look in the eyes of our foster pets and see the eternal love and gratitude given to us.  Although we know we will not have these precious pets permanently in our homes we know that because of Safe Haven Animal Rescue Edmonton Society that they have been given the best chance possible.

Once we see them off to their new permanent homes we will start again with another needy pet and repeat the cycle again and again until there are no more homeless pets!  Although that day may never come we think the work is worth the effort.

More Rescue Organizations Means More Lives Saved

We at Safe Haven Animal Rescue are proud to report our stats for 2006.

Thank you to all our foster homes and supporters
who helped us achieve such great numbers for our first year.
We look forward to working together again in 2007.

The breakdown is as follows: 313 dogs, 230 cats, 1 rabbit

We also saved 38 dogs and 8 cats from the Katrina Disaster in 2006 which are reflected in the above numbers.
