Adoption Process
Please take a
few moments to read about our adoption policies below and the
steps that make up this process. You may be surprised to find
that adopting an animal is a more involved process then
expected, or maybe this is exactly what you expect.
It is
important to understand two things:
-
The process is the same for everyone
-
It’s not our intent to frustrate you
Everything we
do is for the best interest of the animals in our care, and is
aimed at giving them the best possible chance of finding a
permanent home.
Here are the steps…
Once you
contact us by phone or email your enquiry will be passed onto
the foster home that is fostering the pet you are enquiring
about. This process can take a few days (we are all volunteers
and of course on some pets we get numerous enquiries and we need
to follow up with everyone), but enquiries are handled in the
order in which they are received by the foster home. Once the
pet has found a permanent home the foster home will contact the
remaining enquirers to advise them.
If you are
contacted about a meeting with the pet the foster home will ask
you a few questions about your past pet ownership history, your
home and other pets in the home. We also watch to see how the
pet interacts with your family. When you come to meet the pet we
ask that the whole family comes to meet them, including the
families existing dogs. We want to make sure this is a family
decision, and of course to make sure the family pets get along.
If you are the
chosen adopters then there is an adoption fee and paperwork to
fill out. We ask that any adopters be 21yrs of age and please
bring ID with you. The adoption fee includes, the alter (spay or
neuter) of the animal, first set of shots, and a free vet check
within 14 days of adoption.
Please Note
Unfortunately
we cannot hold animals for anyone and the adoptions must be done
on a first-come, first-serve basis and the first good, properly
qualified home will get the adoptable pet.
We want you to
understand that it is stressful and upsetting for the animal,
our foster homes and you when adoptions do not work out and pets
have to come back to us, and we want to make every effort to
ensure that the animal is being adopted to the right home… we
want what is best for everyone involved!
WE ALWAYS
TAKE OUR ADOPTABLE PETS BACK HOWEVER THE ADOPTION FEE IS NON
REFUNDABLE.
PLEASE BE
SURE OF YOUR ADOPTION CHOICE BEFORE MAKING IT OFFICIAL. |
