An update of "Gerry" who we have renamed Quigley to bring out his Aussie roots.

We were interested in his brother "Neumann" but he was adopted. When we heard from SHARES that his brother was available we hesitated at first but as soon as we saw "Gerry" it was fate. We just love him!

Our older dog, Keesha has not been as impressed! But I believe it has given her new life! Thank-you for rescuing "Gerry" so we could love him!

After weeks of searching animal rescue societies I saw Marigold's picture (kids renamed her Bailey). I knew just from her picture that she was the perfect dog for our family. We met her on a Wednesday night and took her home. By Thursday evening she was well settled in. She is loved very much.

Bailey has 5 new friends - 2 Chihuahuas, a Bichon and 2 others. They all meet in the neighbors yard for a evening of running and playing. We sit back and get many laughs watching them. They all get along so wonderful. By the time bed time comes she's so exhausted from a day of cuddling and playing.

Saturday morning when I took her out she sat at the neighbors gate trying to open it just waiting for her 2 Chihuahua friends Sam and Chopper to come out and play. This little lady is well loved and played with. Thank you for such a wonderful dog!    Gloria

We adopted Susie the pug from Safe Haven last week, and we just wanted to update you on how she was doing.

When I saw Susie’s smile in her picture on the Petfinder website, I knew we had to meet her. We just wanted to let you know that we really enjoy Susie so far, and she is such a wonderful addition to our family. Our 3 year old daughter really likes her – and so far, Susie has been really good with her. She is such a good, sweet dog – and although she came to us about 10 lbs overweight, we are confident that she will lose the weight she needs to between her daily walks and playing with us and our toddler. It is rare that she is left home alone, but when we come back home, she greets all of us so enthusiastically that it is such a great welcome.

Thank you very much for the work that you do in providing another chance for an animal to find a loving home and also for listing your pets on Petfinder (I think you are one of the only Edmonton and surrounding area rescues to do this). Susie has helped us fill the void that we had in our lives when our beloved basset hound passed away in January. We’d also like to thank Susie’s foster mom, Brenda because we could tell that Susie enjoyed her time living with her and she took good care of her.

Thank you,  Tracy

I wanted to give you an update on Boco, whom we now have named Jack.  His vet check went well and he got microchipped as well as his booster shots and rabies. The vet said he was in great shape, but could gain a few pounds which we don’t think will take very long at all as he is eating well.

Jack is settling in very well and I have attached a photo of him on his bed and after his bath this evening. I have discovered at the off-leash he likes finding deep and muddy puddles and lying down in the middle of them. He also loves water and will take a swim whenever the opportunity presents itself. We make sure he gets walked twice a day as he has a lot of energy and he gets to the off leash parks 3 times a week. He loves the opportunity to meet other dogs and does laps around the other dogs at the park. He is good about coming back, when he is ready. He is a very good dog and very well behaved for the most part. We are taking obedience at GrandPaws and he is very smart and learns very quickly. We think we will continue onto agility with him as we are all really enjoying the classes and he seems very eager to learn and be busy. He just has some manners to learn, but nothing serious - and he is already showing improvement.  He loves being out in the yard and Michael is making him a dog house so he can stay out during the days while we are at work. We are also going to send him to doggy-daycare once a week so he has time to play with other dogs. He is pretty good about the cats, although he can’t resist trying to chase them occasionally. We really enjoy having him as a part of our family and Michael is also enjoying his first dog. He is adorable and we just wanted to thank-you so much for rescuing him and fostering him so that we had to opportunity to have him in our lives.    Melissa, Michael

Just a quick update on Maggie. She's doing very well. Still would play fetch for hours, but due to arthritis in her hind quarters I have to limit it to 20 min at a time. She like to chase rabbits and thankfully avoids cats. The big jacks are faster so she gives up after running 20 yards. The vet thinks she gets in a zone when she sees them and it doesn't matter how obedient the dog is, they just go.

She loves her 3 to 4 walks a day even when it's -25 or a blizzard out. Me on the other hand, lets say at very cold or in blizzard a condition I'm a walking fashion statement.

Thanks

Marty

Kai (dog) and Cruxy (kitten) are both SHARES animals who came home with us in October, 2006. Kai was abandoned by his previous owner in the middle of the night (who would do that?!?!). For the first couple of weeks, he'd whine whenever we weren't in sight and would never leave our sides. Now he enjoys being spoiled rotten and is very secure in his life-long home. Cruxy and Kai love to play together and sometimes even groom each other... usually ending with drool covering Cruxy's back. Cruxy is a wonderful kitten who like most cats has no regard for what we think or where we would like her to sleep (we've found her sunbathing on the kitchen counter). These two are great pals and made room for our newest edition, a tabby kitten named Towser, who we adopted from another rescue group 6 weeks ago.

Darwyn, AKA Darth, is adjusting quite nicely. He's a very spoiled boy and is living the high life. He is very attached to us, and follows us everywhere we go. We enjoy watching him play in the snow, and be a goof. He's getting really good on his leash, and has already learned two new tricks.

He's a great joy and we are really grateful to SHARES for making it possible for us to find our perfect dog. Especially for saving his life and giving him a second chance. I believe he waited for us to come along.

This is our little kitty Taz, she was once known as Pudding. She is a very good Kitty, she LOVES to play and explore. She never sleeps alone, since the first night that me and my bf came home with her, she sleeps in bed with us. In the daytime when she is sleeping, she is always in my arms and that is where she stays until I put her down. When I go in the bed room, kitchen, etc. she is right behind me, she does not like being alone. I have enclosed some pics of her for you to show you how happy she really is.

Thank you very much for our newest member of our family.

We just wanted to pass along a couple pictures and tell you she is doing great. She has quickly become a wonderful part of our family and is a complete joy to have around the house. She now has all her shots, her worms are cleared up and her fleas have stayed away. She weighs about 23lbs – up from 8lbs when we got her. I don’t think she will get much bigger than this. We walk her twice a day and have taken her to the Terwilliger dog park a couple times so that she can socialize with other dogs and people. She loves our walks out there (and its great for us too).

So far she has learnt sit, lie down, shake a paw, roll over, leave it, no bite and get the ball. Melissa thinks she is a “Genius Dog”, which may be a bit biased but not far off in my mind either. When we first got her we had a few nights of whining and going outside at all hours of the night for bathroom breaks. However, that didn’t last long and she now tells us when she needs to go out. In the end, she only went 4 or 5 times in the house. You must have done something to help that situation.

Anyways, thank you very much for taking such good care of her until we were able to adopt her. You and the other foster homes do a wonderful thing for these animals.

Just wanted to let you know how well "Peaches" aka "Breena" is doing. We adopted Peaches in June '06 and renamed her Breena, as she reminded us so much of our lovely German Shepherd/Lab cross, Sheena, who sadly passed away in Aug. '05 from cancer. Breena adapted to her new name immediately and settled in so well, including acceptance of her two feline family members. She loves her toys and runs to get one as soon as we arrive home from work for a game of tug-of-war or fetch. She is quite good at the off-leash park - always running to play with every dog in sight... darn if those little ones don't look like rabbits to chase, though! She is still in the process of learning that her exuberant rough-and-tumble races with the smaller dogs aren't always what the little dogs like but she usually responds to a whistle and races back to us. Even when she chased a coyote down into the ravine and out of site, she came right back (much to our relief).

Breena is also a great watch-dog - an added bonus. We are delighted with this precious new addition to our family.

To all of you at SHARES who give so generously of your time and efforts, including the wonderful foster families, especially Jay, who fostered Breena, thank you so much. Your commitment to rescuing and finding good homes for all the animals so in need of a second chance is truly commendable.

I had been searching the Petfinder website ever since we found out that we were moving to Alberta and would have a house with a big yard. We had talked a lot about the type, size and breed of dog we wanted and had always came back to a medium sized animal... I was firm on Basset Hound and he was firm on Beagle. Once we moved to Edmonton I started to search the website more diligently and that is when I saw Millie!!

When Sean came home from work I had the picture of her blown up on the monitor and all the contact info for SHARES printed out, I showed him the picture and without hesitation he said "call and see". I called her foster home and we went to see her 45 minutes later... after meeting her we instantly fell in love. She was 4 months old with these great big paws and the cutest puppy dog face. She is a very unusual looking puppy as she is a Basset/Rotti cross but that is why we loved her. We made all the arrangements and picked Millie up the next day!! Now we have such an adventure walking around our community with Millie getting loads of attention and us answering a million questions about her breed!!

We love Millie so much and as she is a puppy we often need to remind ourselves how great she is when she is not chewing or jumping around!! We are all in puppy school and are learning something new everyday!! Millie a wonderful member of our family and we found out that we have made time to have such a wonderful pet in our lives!! It is hard to imagine a life without a dog... especially without Millie!!  ~ Kim

Hi, It’s Maggie here… I just wanted to let you all know how happy and very spoiled I am. I even have a brother named Latte who is actually a big furry cat who slaps my butt occasionally, but I get him back by eating his food. I love going for walks and barking at the birdies. I also love visiting my Grandpa who lives in rural Alberta, he spoils me more than anyone. I have had a few vet visits and one surgery to remove a lump on my breast. The lump actually turned out to be a small bullet that had already developed scar tissue around it. Needless to say, I am so lucky to have all the care and attention I so deserve… I’m so happy!! I want to say thanks to the SHARES folks who saved me and found me my new loving home, without you I wouldn’t be here.

P.S. The photo of me is from my graduation.

Regards, Maggie
