HERO
Read below - Hero is ADOPTED!!!

One of our volunteers was driving down the road and witnessed a dog being beaten with a stick and being kicked by a boy under 13 years of age. When our volunteer stops and scares the kid home she followed him and went to the door of the residence to be met by this child's mother who states "NOT HER PROBLEM". The authorities were called and Hero was seized because they would not claim the dog as their dog.

Hero is taken to the Stony Plain Vet Clinic to see what damage has been done to this beautiful dog. Upon examination it is discovered that the damage to his front right leg is too severe and has been going on long term that the only option was to have the leg amputated. The abuse has obviously been going on for some time and we thank Janice for saving this boy when she did, because we can only guess the end result this poor dog would have endured if he had stayed.

Hero's Diary

December 28, 2006
Hero's new mom and dad were in to visit and brought some pictures of Hero and the family. He has taken over the couch and has fit right in with everyone. We wish Hero all the best, and we know they will have many great years together.

Our boy Hero got a great new home for Christmas. Hero is part of a family with three kids and one of the boys is autistic, he and Hero are best buds. Hero looks out for his new buddy and is always ready for what ever Jo Jo wants to do. We could not be happier for our special boy and I will miss my big clown, but I know he has gotten a great new family who will love him like he deserves.

Hero is an amazing dog who gets along quite well on the linoleum now and even is going up and down the stairs, but I would not like to see him in a home with lots of stairs. He does still trip now and then but is quick to regain his footing. Hero is a sweetheart and trusts his foster mom and even gives lots of kisses. Hero is great in the car, in his crate, and is quite calm considering he is only about 10 months old. Once he is recovered from his surgery and has his stitches out we will have him neutered. Hero is good with other dogs and likes the ladies. (HE LOVES his foster sister Ava and follows her everywhere.) He does get excited every now and then so has to be crated so he stays calm and does not rip his stitches out. Hero loves pizza and will do anything to get it. His stitches are due to come out on the 23rd, and by then we know he will be getting around like he lost his leg at birth.

I get the call that Hero is doing fine and seems to be getting around ok and has to be on antibiotics and Metacam for the pain for two weeks. He is now ready to go home, or at least to a temporary home until a permanent home can be found for Hero that will treat him as he should be - with love and respect. That is where SHARES comes into the story.

Upon his entry to his foster moms place he has to be carried as he has not seen linoleum before and cannot make the stairs on his own. Within 10-15 minutes Hero made his way up the three stairs from the garage to meet his new foster sister and brothers who were checking out his wounds, and as I watched they almost were trying to help Hero and were not playing rough or getting in his way. Quite the sight to see, how everyone seemed to want to help Hero.

Hero comes through his surgery, and now begins the process of recovery and to see if he can walk again.
