WESTLOCK EMERGENCY RESCUE OF NINE DOGS

DONATIONS ALWAYS APPRECIATED TOWARDS CARE OF OUR HOMELESS ANIMALS

June 27, 2006

Anne received a call from By-law in Westlock in desperation early in the day. There was a devastating fire in Westlock and there are now 9 dogs needing emergency placement. By 2:00 pm our foster homes came through and we were able to help all 9 dogs and pups. All the refugees are small dogs except for two dogs which are small Lab crosses. Everyone got out alive but poor little Porcha (3 month old Daschund) received burns to her eye area due to the heat, she should be fine with time and ointment. Mom (Sally) and her 5 week old pup (Rizo) will be ready for adoption in a few weeks once Rizo is old enough. Even though these little ones were traumatized they are sweet, caring dogs who are well socialized and all get along with dogs of all sizes and are quite affectionate with people. They all seem to look out for one another as well and we even suspect that Tica and Bentley are a couple and we would love to have these two adopted together.

Everyone needs to be spayed or neutered and medical care due to heat burns. The gang consists of two Lab crosses (Sheila and Toya),  two Chihuahua’s (Tica and Aztec), one Min Pin (Bentley) and four Daschunds (Sally, Rizo, Ruby and Porcha).

All 9 of our fire dogs are doing great in their foster homes, and two have even found a home (Ruby and Porcha) together.  There is lots of interest in the gang and we will update as we have more information.

As of today all have found loving homes except Toya, but we know this girl will also get a great new home to call her own soon. We are happy to report that our couple Bentley & Tica have been adopted together. Also our pup with the burned eyes Porcha will have a permanent sister in Ruby (now Mercedes) who was also a victim of this terrible tragedy. Thank you to our supporters and of course our foster homes who did not even hesitate to help these needy 9 dogs and pups until new homes could be found.
